What is an individual tutoring session?
An individual tutoring session is the chance for us to work together one-on-one on a computer challenge you may have or application you would like to learn. I am available to tutor individuals of all ages and can assist with assigned coursework or homework as well as create a tutoring session specific to your needs and goals. I am familiar with the needs of the home learner and my academic background and experience tutoring in academia allows me to provide instruction for more demanding topics. On the main tutoring page I provide a list of suggested topics, but there are many more areas where I can help you. The best way to find out if I can offer the instruction you need is to contact me and ask. |

Where do tutoring sessions take place?
Tutoring sessions are scheduled to be convenient for you. This means that we can schedule your appointment around your busy life because I offer training at night and on the weekends. Tutoring sessions can take place in your home, but most people prefer to meet at a public location such as a library or coffee shop. If it would be more convenient for you, please check out virtual tutoring options – which are available to people in the Chicagoland area and around the world. |

Individual tutoring is about creating a custom lesson plan and providing you individualized attention. To accomplish this goal, I have developed some common practices to ensure the best possible experience. First, when you contact me I will begin a dialogue to understand what your goals are. Based upon your goals, we will work together to formulate a lesson plan which may include one or more sessions, based on your time and budget considerations. I want to work with you to make you happy and to help you succeed. I truly enjoy teaching and helping those I work with both in my development and tutoring businesses.
Before we actually begin the lesson, I will ensure that you are prepared with all the tools, software, and hardware you need for your session. I will also prepare an outline and some activities based upon the goals we discussed earlier. If we need to make any changes to your lesson plan or the length of the session, I will make sure that we both agree to the modifications before continuing. During the course of the lesson, I will provide instruction and will ask you questions to stimulate your interest and ensure that you are grasping the material. My teaching philosophy is to expose you to many resources, this includes information resources and guides from outside sources so that you can continue to learn beyond our session.
In addition to the lesson, I can provide additional study guides and material to help you with your education. Many students enjoy learning new concepts, but have trouble thinking of ways to practice their new skills. I can provide practice exercises for you to work on during or after our session. I will then later review your work if necessary and can provide constructive input to help you better understand the core concepts we have worked on. Other study materials may include custom cheatsheets based on your learning objectives or common problems. Your cheatsheet provides a handy desktop reference to help you remember those obscure or confusing tasks that you want to complete and may include things like shortcut-references, hard to find menu options, or the steps to take to accomplish some specific task. I can also provide presentations to help you review material. I can create a slideshow highlighting information and examples, catered to your specific needs. I can also make interactive presentations which allow you to browse slides in any order and provide interactive feedback. Lastly, the best example sometimes is to see it again. I can provide you with a screencast of the topics covered in your lesson to serve as a reminder. Screencasts are video recordings of everything happening on the screen. I will professionally edit your screencast and can provide it as a computer file or on a TV-ready DVD. Additional materials will incur additional fees that depend upon the complexity and the time required to create the study guide for you, but can provide a more valuable resource that standard textbooks and guides at a similar cost.
