Featured Client: The Ultimate Art Workshop

The Ultimate Art Workshop is one of my favorite clients and has provided me the opportunity to work on many fun and unique projects over the years. In fact, the Ultimate Art Workshop is one of my original clients from when I first started with web design as a teenager. Recently, we have just completed a major site overhaul and have added a new design for one of the sub sites MyYad.com.

Avi Zukerman, the artist behind the Ultimate Art Workshop is an experienced artisan who dreams required creative web-workery. Initially, Avi only required a basic website to show off his workshops and photo galleries. Taking over from a previous web designer, I implemented dynamic code and a templating system in order to make future site updates easier and to ensure common design control throughout the entire website. I also included specialty scripts for galleries and a customized contact form.

One day Avi approached me with a ground-breaking project. He was going to offer a new art project that would allow students to create there very own customized yad, a ritualistic pointer used in the Jewish religion. In order to streamline the process and to enable more students to participate, he asked me to create an interactive web application that would allow students to submit their own design for their personalized yad. This was an immense project that did not only require the creation of a customized Flash application, but also involved creating a backend database to manage accounts and store all the students various designs. As a result, I crafted a customized system that allowed students to submit their yad's individual or as part of a larger class/group. Teachers could then log in and review their students designs. In addition, I helped Avi to integrate PayPal in order to accept credit card and e-Checks, substantially helping to increase cash-flow and to decrease turn-around time.

While all the code was custom built for this project, I still used best-practice standards and code design. These proper coding practices have allowed me to easily update the code even when drastic site changes were required. In addition to web design and development, I work with Avi on other business and computer related task to ensure that his decisions are in-line with his business strategy. This include helping him come up with ideas to optimize his current website and new ideas for advertising and project management.
