YouTube Gallery is a piece of software I wrote to bring the power of the YouTube API to Joomla! 1.0 powered websites. Unlike other YouTube options for Joomla that simply allow administrators to import and post videos, YouTube Gallery allows every user on a Joomla powered website to have their own gallery. Users could easily import any videos they had uploaded to YouTube by simply entering their YouTube username or they could enter the id of any video on YouTube. Realizing that people often want different descriptions and titles for their videos depending on audience, I created a feature which would pull down the title and description from YouTube but also allow users to make local changes that would only be seen on that particular Joomla website.

While many Joomla websites exist for the publication of articles and news, there is a growing demand for social media and community features from Joomla site administrators and users. YouTube gallery provided a unique solution and feature for web masters to provide a great community feature.

From an administrative standpoint, YouTube Gallery introduced many useful features including full integration with the first version of the YouTube API and interactive language management, a feature which still is not found in many Joomla products, which rely on manual language file manipulation.
